Daren Wu  (1908—1997)born in Gaoyao county, Guangdong province, a geometrician and educationist. In 1930, Wu Daren graduated from the Department of mathematics, Nankai University. From 1937 to 1946, he served as professor in Wuhan University and Sichuan University successively. In 1946, he returned to Nankai University as professor. From 1949 to 1961, he held the position of  academic dean of Nankai University. After that the vice president of Nankai University till 1983. In 1981, he was appointed as a member in science group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.

He has been elected as the vice chairman and honorary chairman of Chinese Mathematical Society, vice chairman and honorary chairman of TAST(Tianjin Association for Science and Technology). His research fields include integral geometry, differential geometry and gear meshing theory. He’s one of the pioneers of integral geometry in China. Lectures on Differential Geometry and  Introduction to Analytic Geometry of Space, edited by him were awarded the first prize of national teaching materials. His cooperative research on gear meshing theory was recognized by National Science Conference in 1978 and won the first prize of Tianjin science and technology achievement award. Instructed by his achievement on gear meshing theory, Tianjin Machinery Research Institute designed the world--class worm gear successfully. Many suggestions brought up by him was accepted by the central government. He translated and published 7 great mathematical works. He has won unanimously praise for his noble personality and  high morality.
